Is your Student Leap Card about to expire?

If you are between 19 and 25 years of age, you can apply for a Young Adult Leap Card, so you can continue to avail of the 50% fare reductions. You can apply for it here and it will be posted out to you.

If you are under 19 or over 25 and you’re still in full time training or education, you can apply for a new Student TFI Leap Card.

If you are 26 years old or more and are no longer a student, you will need to get an Adult TFI Leap Card.

Renewing your Student TFI Leap Card

  • You will be asked to provide the following:
    • Date of birth;
    • Supporting documentation; and,
    • A €5 refundable deposit, plus a minimum of €5 travel credit.

    Students are now required to submit supporting evidence online as part of their application. This must include a letter from their college/institution detailing the course is full time (15+ hours) and over 6 months/25 weeks in duration. The letter must include a header and footer with a clear official stamp and/or signature from their college/institution.

    Kindly note: 

    • Applications cannot be submitted before the official course start date.
    • In the event of a failed application your refund will automatically be processed.

    Students are reminded to ensure all supporting documentation is provided to complete their application. Partially completed applications will be rejected.

    Once you apply online and upload your verification documents you must wait to receive a confirmation email that your card is ready before collecting it from a Student Leap Card agent. When you collect your card you will need to show your Student ID and a valid proof of age ID. If you’ve already applied for your card you can check on the order status, here.

    Student’s must wait up to 5 working days for a confirmation email, before collecting their Leap card from a Student Leap Agent.

    Who is eligible for a Student Leap Card?

    Students must be able to verify they meet the criteria below:

    • Students must be currently enrolled in full time training or education;
    • Students must have a minimum of 15 hours of lectures/class time per week and be enrolled in the course for a minimum of 6 months/25 weeks;
    • Full time international students who meet the criteria above are also entitled to apply for the Student Leap Card whilst in Ireland;
    • Students enrolled as trainee Accountants (ACCA, Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland), trainee Solicitors registered with the Law Society, full time SOLAS trainees/students and full time PLC students are also eligible;
    • Students of online courses are not eligible to apply for the Student Leap Card;
    • Students may be required to produce further evidence of eligibility (e.g., letter from their college or institution); and,
    • International Students must upload their acceptance letters from Irish universities, confirming their admission. This documentation must be submitted in English or Irish.
    • Eligible courses spanning two academic years, must run for a minimum of three months from October 1st to qualify for a new Student Leap Card.
